Some of New York City’s best male dancers made their way to Radio City Music Hall to audition for a spot in the ensemble of our New York Spectacular.
“The caliber of the room was so exciting—you know the resumés of some of the things these men have done,” says ensemble hopeful Jovan D. “We’re all performers and that’s what’s so exciting.”
Mia’s assistant choreographers taught a high-energy and athletic jazz combination, followed by another detailed, hard-hitting jazz routine which was full of precise “Vogue”-style movements.
“When you have someone like Mia Michaels come into town, it’s a really rare opportunity to be able to work for someone like her or be seen, and the turnout today was pretty exciting,” says Julius R., Assistant Choreographer to Mia Michaels. “For Mia, when you’re fearless and you know what you’ve got and you just trust what you can give—as uncomfortable as you may feel—that to her gets across. Because that means you’re vulnerable enough to let her translate something to you.”
